Riding in Prague
If you want to find riding school from Prague and you don’t
speak much Czech you have a problem. Here are a lot of riding
schools, but they don’t bother to deliver information in
English on the Internet. Maybe you could use Net with the dictionary,
but best way is to talk with locals and visit in riding equipment
shops – if you can find even them. Mondo (the Finnish guidebook)
mentioned two stables, but for example one of them, TJ Tempo,
didn’t want to take people like us to riding. We should
join in the some club first and then make also works in stables,
like cleaning of pens, if we really would like to ride there.
Velkostatek Tetin Equestrian Cente
Level of teachers and riding schools varies. For example in Velkostatek
Tetin Equestrian Center had a very good teachers who really advise
what to do and gave good instructions and tips. In other place
teacher couldn’t really tell what you are doing wrong and
so it was impossible also to correct the mistakes.
Riding culture seems to be little bit different then the one
I have used to in Finland. Helmets are very rarely used in local
stables. In worst case you can see that beginner rides without
helmets and good shoes… quite dangerous… In good stables
you can borrow helmet if you want to. People also ride with quite
short stirrups. I wondered if I should increase the length of
stirrups but my teacher liked to shorten them even more. There
is also much more light trotting and they teach to move directly
from walking to light trot. I don’t know if riders just
don’t like to sit trot or what is the reason for not teach
that almost at all. I feel it little bit odd, because if you sit
on the trot you get better contact to horse and it betrays your
balance.
Jezdecká Spolecnost Staj Hostivar
Prices of one-hour lectures varies somewhere between 350-550
Kc depending on location of stables, quality and a level of rider.
Sizes of groups are small, four riders per lesson seems to be
enough.
Next I will visit in a big stable in quite near of Prague centre.
Let’s see how the system works in there…
